●　「-ing」の部分は「worth」の目的語です。目的語には不定詞ではなく動名詞を置きます。

　（○）I'm interested in studying history.
　（×）I'm interested in to study history.
　（×）This book is worth to read twice.

次の構文を使って書きかえられるよ。

◆　It is worth (while) -ing.
◆　It is worth while to 原形.

★　It is worth (while) reading this book twice.
　＝It is worth while to read this book twice.
　　直訳：この本を２度読むことは価値あることだ。
　　意訳：この本は２度読む価値がある。

●　ここでの「while」は名詞で「時間・労力」の意。

●　「while」は「worth」の目的語。「be worth while」で「時間・労力をかける価値がある」の意。

●　不定詞を使う場合、「while」は必須です。

●　「It」は形式主語で「-ing以下」あるいは「to以下」をさしています。「-ing以下」あるいは「to以下」は真主語になっています。

●　例文の原義は、「この本を２度読むことは時間と労力をかける価値がある」です。

●　実用英語では「worthwhile」と１単語で表現することが普通ですが、受験英語ではまだ分けるほうが多いです。

●　受験英語では、形式主語の「It」で始まるなら「while」を置く、具体的な名詞が主語なら「while」を置かない、と覚えておいてください。
