★　He was strong enough to carry the stone. 　　彼はその石を運ぶことができるほど力が強かった。 　　＝彼は力が強かったのでその石を運ぶことができた。 ★　She was kind enough to tell me the way. 　　彼女は私に道を教えてくれるほど親切だった。 　　＝彼女は親切にも私に道を教えてくれた。 ★　The man was not near enough for her to distinguish his features. その男は彼女が彼の容貌を識別できるほど近いところにいなかった。 ★　Speak more slowly enough for everybody to understand you. 　みんなが理解できるくらいにもっとゆっくりと話してください。 ★　He is wise enough not to do such a thing. 　　 直訳：彼はそんなことをしないほど賢い。 　　 意訳：そんなことをしないだけの分別が彼にはある。

●　「enough strong to carry 〜」のように「enough」を形容詞・副詞の前に持ってくることはできません。 　例） 　　（×） He was enough strong to carry the stone. ●　形容詞・副詞ではなく「名詞」なら「enough」の位置は前でも後ろでもかまいません。 　例） 　　（○）We have enough time to do so. 　　（○）We have time enough to do so.        我々にはそれを行なう十分な時間がある。

この表現は英文解釈でも頻出だよ。

★　He was so strong as to carry the stone. 　　彼はその石を運ぶことができるほど力が強かった。 　　＝彼は力が強かったのでその石を運ぶことができた。

●　これは「so 〜 that 〜構文」の不定詞版みたいなものです。そのため、「so 〜 that 〜構文」と書き換えることができます。 　例） 　・He is so strong as to carry it.    ＝He is so strong that he can carry it.     ＝He is strong enough to carry it. ●　「親切にも〜してくれた」と訳せる表現を全部覚えましょう。 　 　・彼は親切にも私に道を教えてくれた。 　　＝He was kind enough to tell me the way. 　　＝He was so kind as to tell me the way. 　　＝He had the kindness to tell me the way. 　　＝It was kind of him to tell me the way. 　　＝He kindly told me the way.
